Adding a placement year

Placements are offered in a range of job roles and are targeted to undergraduate students to undertake at the end of their second year. Some companies might also call them a ‘sandwich placement’ or a ‘year in industry’. In simple terms, your three year degree changes to a four year degree with your placement year being your third year.

A 38+ week placement forms part of your degree programme and your certificate will state your degree title and “with employment experience”.

Take a look at some of the placements management school students have done and what they thought of their placement.

You can undertake a placement year whilst on your student visa. A placement year can be in the UK, your home country or another country. For many international students placements and internships offer the best opportunity to gain relevant UK work experience. Check out the management school Placement Handbook for further details, including the section specifically for international students and find more useful information on doing a work placement on a student visa can be found here.
