Human Resources Placement Year at Dyson

About the company

Pioneering technology takes more than just inventive engineers. At Dyson, we take a problem-solving approach to everything we do.

Our People team are responsible for activating our unique philosophy and values to deliver a truly Dyson people experience. Our rapid growth means the organisation feels fast-moving, constantly changing, so there’s opportunity to make a difference and influence the right change. Our HR experts work across the employee lifecycle to motivate and engage our people, ensuring they perform at the highest level and helping us maintain our competitive edge.

We are looking for emerging leaders in our People team that are eager to learn by doing, not by watching – we’ll expect you to get hands-on and solve problems from the off, contributing as well as learning. Join us on a 12-month placement and from day one you’ll be thrown into the real world with real responsibility.

About the role

During this 12-month opportunity you will rotate through two, 6-month placements supporting one of key teams such as HR Business Partnering, Reward & Benefits, Talent, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging, or Strategy & Transformation. You’ll contribute from day one and gain valuable exposure to the Global HR function as well as the broader business. The programme is flexible allowing you to direct your learning opportunities and experience, whilst deepening your understanding of the People function and broader business.

You will have a valuable role to play in the respective teams, learning about the key HR processes, methodologies, relevant legislation, systems, and the different roles within a Global HR function.

Day-to-day responsibilities will vary depending on each placement, but will include:

  • Supporting HRBPs in the planning and implementation of organisation changes, HR projects and initiatives that support the Dyson People strategy/local plans. This could include graduate recruitment, talent identification and management, management capability development, personal development/career planning.
  • Reviewing data and produce reports for key employee metrics (e.g. turnover, headcount, absence), identifying, investigating, and flagging possible implications of issues/trends that show up, and supporting HRBPs in identifying activities to resolve
  • Supporting the development and implementation of strategies and global initiatives related to Reward & Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Learning & Development, and Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging
  • Providing project and change management support to enable the successful implementation of global and local People function initiatives

For the duration of your internship, you will have regular performance conversations as well as opportunities for development to enable you to build your reputation within the team, and this could be just the start. We’ll be looking to offer our high performing interns to return on our graduate programme.

Requirements

Our internships are competitive, standards and expectations are high, so you’ll need to be:

  • An undergraduate seeking a 12-month HR placement, graduating in 2024.
  • Working towards a degree discipline in any business subject area.
  • Able to demonstrate what you’ve achieved beyond academics. Motivation and attitude are important to us, and you will need to be able to demonstrate your commercial acumen and understanding of Human Resources.
  • Curious, hungry to learn, and ready to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the purpose of an HR function and your motivation for a career in this area
  • Comfortable undertaking research, compiling findings and writing papers, with strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Expected to present ideas and take part in discussions with senior stakeholders right from the start, so you’ll be articulate and quick to build credibility with a professional approach
  • Able to work equally well in a team as well as on your own initiative.
  • Partnering with the business you’ll be skilled at building relationships, growing networks, and collaborating as required

Above all, we’ll need to see your passion for Dyson and our Technology.
