A new private equity business in the UK providing transformational capital to growing businesses. Beech Tree Private Equity has an absolute focus on investing in high growth businesses in the UK, valued between £10 million and £75 million. We work with the management teams of these companies to turn good businesses into exceptional businesses. Our strategy – we typically invest between £10 to £30 million of equity into high growth companies operating in sectors such as: Specialist Manufacturing, IT Services, Consumer & Leisure, Energy & Environmental Services, Financial Services and Support Services.
The businesses that we invest in are likely to have some if not all of the following characteristics: The potential to become a market leader in a growing sub-sector, a disruptive business model for its industry, the ability to develop internationally and the ability to consolidate a market through acquisitions. In simple terms, we seek ambitious management teams who see an opportunity to grow their businesses rapidly. We provide the capital and expertise to capture the opportunity. We believe in being part of business communities and building relationships that matter. Hence we are based in the Midlands (Birmingham) and the North of England (Manchester).
About the role
The placements are designed to help students gain a deeper insight into the world of business and to provide experience to assist students to build their CVs ahead of a move into full-time employment. Beech Tree are keen to assist students develop their careers in the working world and applications
from wider participation backgrounds are encouraged.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with the research and identification of high growth sectors in which Beech Tree PE would
like to invest, using various external information sources / databases / internet resources
• Write and present concise ‘research papers’ on each identified sector to explain the key growth
drivers, trends, technology and outlook within the industry
• Understand Beech Tree PE’s investment criteria and identify the right businesses to target in a
given industry (based on company financials, ownership and assessment of its business model)
• Research and understand latest news/ key differentiators/ LinkedIn posts of the target
businesses so as to then assist in the drafting of emails and LinkedIn messages to reach out to
target businesses directly
• Develop presentations / collateral to support Beech Tree PE’s origination efforts
• Ad hoc financial analysis
Requirements
The ideal candidate requires the following competencies:
- Strong desire to learn about the private equity sector
- Strong desire to learn about specific sectors and their market trends
- Keen interest in business, finance, investment and economics – ideally studying business studies/ economics or similar degree
- Ability to make qualitative and quantitative assessments of a wide range of sectors and businesses
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrable knowledge of basic accounting principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) as well desktop research skills
- Languages: Fluent English
